How to convert a JPG image to PNG?
To convert a .jpg or .jpeg file to the PNG format, follow these simple steps:
- Upload the JPG image - Drop or select the file you want to convert. You can also paste an image from the clipboard with CTRL+V.
- Wait for the preview - The canvas shows the converted PNG. There is nothing to configure: PNG is lossless, so the conversion copies the pixels exactly.
- Check the new file size - The table compares the original JPG with the PNG. The PNG will normally be bigger, which is expected.

JPEG compression permanently removed information when the file was saved. PNG stores whatever pixels it receives perfectly, including the compression artifacts, so the PNG looks exactly like the JPG. What you gain is that the image will not degrade any further when you save it again.
Why is the PNG file bigger than the JPG?Because it is lossless. JPEG got its small size by discarding detail; PNG keeps everything, so it needs more bytes. For a photograph the PNG is commonly 5 to 10 times the size of the JPG. For a simple graphic with few colors the difference is much smaller, and the PNG can even be smaller than the JPG.
Does this make the background transparent?No. PNG supports transparency, but a JPG has no transparent pixels to carry over, so the converted PNG is fully opaque. The conversion gives you a format in which you can erase the background afterwards, in an image editor, but it does not remove anything by itself.
